Choosing the Right Lashes for Your Makeup

Today there are so many choices when it comes to eyelashes! I love eyelashes.

Lashes are the one thing that can enhance your look without having to do too much else. Even a simple press of a lash curler can make you look more awake and beautiful.  From mascara, fake lashes, lash tint and eyelash extensions the choices are endless.

I get asked all the time about the types of lashes you can use on your wedding day, so here's a breakdown of each type, their effect and best use...

Eyelash Tinting

Lash tinting is the dying of your natural lash hairs to a darker tone, much like dying your hair. From blue-black to brown there is choice however the results are much the same.

As I use mascara on everyone a lash tint won't offer much impact as it will be covered up by mascara.

However, a lash tint can be beneficial for those with fair lashes who are getting eyelash extensions applied (only have tint applied 48 hours prior to extensions). Dark lashes make your extensions seamless so there's no fair 'line' between the lash and your eyelid. It's also helpful to your eyelash technician so they can see all your lashes easily while applying the extensions.

Best suited for: fair lashes, those wanting dark lashes for their honeymoon and those fair lashed brides who are having eyelash extensions applied.

Individual Lashes

Individual Lashes

Individual Lashes

The most natural, believable and comfortable fake lashes. Individual clusters or flares of lashes are applied to your lash line - normally a few on each eye. Blended together with waterproof mascara you get fullness and definition that's so naturally beautiful!

Individual lashes come in a range of lengths and I decide which to use based on your natural lashes.

They blend seamlessly with your lash line so you don't see any obvious fake lashes up close.

The glue I use is temporary in that they only last the day. The glue is also waterproof. A more permanent glue can be used but I avoid this type as it's damaging to your natural lashes and once the lashes start getting wet they never sit nicely again. Removal is simple, you just peel them off easily it's a stretchy type of glue that won't pull out your natural lashes.

Best suited for: any bride wanting a naturally beautiful look.

Strip Lashes

Strip lashes are the most bold and glamourous of the fake lashes. Mind you, there are very natural looking ones too! Different lengths, curls, volume and shapes give you endless choice.

I always choose a strip lash that's natural to your face and eye shape. There's nothing worse than people seeing your lashes before they see you!

A note on strip lashes: they can often be felt, more so than individual lashes. They can also be problematic for some eye shapes in that the corner of the lash may lift up, especially in hot weather or if you cry.

However, the beauty of strip lashes is that you can almost always reuse them again!

Best suited for: brides wanting a glamourous look, suits all locations except beach weddings as they can sometimes look too overdone. Perfect for evenings and bridesmaids.

Eyelash Extensions

Russian Volume Lash Extensions

Russian Volume Lash Extensions

Eyelash Extensions are by far THE most popular choice for bridal makeup. The benefits of lash extensions are endless!

  • no need to wear mascara on your wedding day - no smudging!

  • gives you longer, fuller, darker, more voluminous lashes

  • last 3-6 weeks and can be maintained long term if you wish

  • last well after your wedding day, through to your honeymoon

  • wake up feeling beautiful with no need for other makeup

  • grooms love them!

  • you will receive compliments for weeks on how great you look

I apply your lash extensions prior to your wedding day as the application takes 1.5-2 hours to ensure separation, density and longevity. The application is a perfect time out from all the wedding chaos that goes on the week of your wedding - you will enjoy some time to stop and relax.
